- I am currently addicted to any of the animal rescue shows on Animal Planet – and cry almost every single time I watch one.
- I’m religious about wearing lipstick or lip balm when I’m outside (especially in the winter) to avoid chapped lips. I also always wear a scarf around my neck in the winter. When I don’t, I usually get a sore throat and a bad cold.

Here goes my meme - hope I've inserted something to surprise those of you who know me!
1. My soul lives in Paris. Ever since I lived there as a student in 1976, I’ve had to make frequent trips back to reunite and be whole again. If I’m going anywhere in Europe, I fly in and out of Paris just to get my fix. On my most recent trip in December 2006, I admitted that I will have to live there again at some point. I’m happiest in Paris.
2. I am a book junky. I own thousands of books (and that’s after a major purge from moving) , stacked everywhere, falling off the bookshelves, even some in boxes in storage. I use bookstores as therapy and can’t possibly leave without buying more books. It’s a very eclectic collection ranging from mysteries, to general fiction, to classics, to espionage, to some fantasy, to plays, to reference works, to travel essays, to romances, to young adult fiction, to who knows what. I can’t hope to read them all. It doesn’t stop me. Ever since my brother gave me 3 Nancy Drew mysteries for my 12th birthday, I’ve been a book junky. And proud of it.
3. I never know lyrics to songs or arias. Never. Quite a shocking admission for someone who loves vocal music and opera as much as I do. To me, the sound of the voice is just another instrument in the music making it sound as it does (which is how Wagner and Beethoven saw and used the voice – and while I love Beethoven, I can’t abide Wagner). While I can appreciate good lyrics vs. bad, it’s not why I listen to vocal music or opera. It’s all about the sound.
4. I bite my nails. Not as much as when I was younger, especially if I religiously get a manicure, but more now than a few years ago. It’s mostly when I’m under a lot of pressure and stress.
5. Movies are my preferred tv-viewing. Old movies, recent movies, any movies. I like westerns, comedies, romantic comedies, thrillers, mysteries, dramas, classics, musicals. I loathe horror, most sci-fi, scary movies and most teenage angst flicks. I have to be careful what I watch before going to bed because it will haunt my dreams if it’s scary or depressing. So I tend to re-watch the same silly movies over and over.
6. I won trophies for my baking prowess as a teenager. I may be a resident of New York City now and eat out all the time, but I grew up on a dairy farm in upstate New York. I know all about cooking, canning, freezing, making jams and pickles, and baking. I was a 4-H member, and entered various judged competitions year after year. I won lots of ribbons and trophies, and even got to go to the New York State Fair because of my skills. I also won my first trips to New York City and Washington, D.C. because of those baking skills.
7. Once upon a time, I seriously considered becoming a professional stage manager. I was really good at organizing the detail of putting on a production, meeting deadlines and working with actors, directors and producers. I became a New York City real estate lawyer instead – same skills, different venue.
8. The single best decision I ever made in my life was to attend Barnard College in New York City. It gave me the world.

I also have never had a driver's license. During my one and only driving test, even though my driving instructor had assured me I was a very good driver & was ready, I was extremely nervous and almost had a serious accident ... two boys on bikes suddenly came out of nowhere, right in front of me! I slammed the brakes. The driving inspector slammed the brakes. No one was hurt. I spent the rest of the day shaking. I have never taken the wheel again. I save lives by not driving, not the least of which is my own.

I really enjoyed reading your posts. I think your cats are so beautiful. I would like to learn how to make socks. It is the one thing other than gloves that I MUST learn to do. I am not anywhere near as accomplished as you girls, but I would appreciate it if I can learn to knit socks. Thanks.
Thanks for visiting my blog. I'm new to sock knitting but they're really not that hard to do. There's lots of information and instruction online. Or if you have a local knitting store I bet they'd be more than happy to help you out. It helps to have people with more experience to ask questions of and give you advice.
