Digging in My Heels

My forays into sock knitting to date have been fraught with mishaps and miscalculations: Needles too large for the yarn, casting on too few stitches, needles and yarn too large that a sock for Bigfoot was emerging, yarn-stealing cats, tangled balls of yarn (see yarn-stealing cats), misplacing newly purchased smaller dpns.

All of that is about to change. I am determined to knit myself a pair of socks! Lost dpns found. (Check.) Unknit sock mistakes. (Check.) Untangle yarn and re-wrap into balls. (Check.) Knit swatch to check stitch count. (Check.) I said I was determined.
The plan is to knit a basic, toe-up sock with self-stripping yarn. No patterns, just ribbing. Keeping it simple. Once I have an honest-to-goodness pair of socks, I hope to move on to some of the lovely sock patterns I've been admiring.

So, let the sock knitting begin!
